Enactus Oxford Brookes is an award-winning student Social Enterprise Society that has teamed up with Age UK Oxfordshire to set up a project called Homeshare Oxford, a scheme that enables people to help each other out by matching elderly people who have space to spare at home with those who need somewhere to live and can offer help (such as cooking and cleaning, but not personal care) and/or companionship in return.

About the Scheme

‘Householders’ and ‘homesharers’ are interviewed and carefully matched.  Homesharing is about friendship, mutual respect and support. The costs are low, and both parties gain security and independence.  Homesharers can be anyone who needs to save money and is looking for companionship or a safe home environment.

For example, you could be:

• a student, new to leaving home and wanting a safe environment
• a post-graduate student who needs affordable accommodation
• a mature student looking for an affordable way to study
• relocating from another area, perhaps temporarily
• new to this country and want to find your feet before getting your own home

Association founder, Typhaine de Penfentenyo, received this prestigious award on behalf of ensemble2générations from Làszlo Andor, the EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

Founded in 2006, ensemble2générations has helped more than 900 students in finding accommodation in exchange for offering support to an elderly person.

An extension of this program is being considered in Luxembourg, Switzerland and Japan
