Dear All, Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! I would like to introduce myself. My name is Giorgia Crucioli. I have joined Elizabeth Mills as a volunteer Administrative Assistant for six months. One of the jobs I have been asked to do is to gather up material for the next Homeshare International newsletter. We would like it to be ready for distribution this Spring.2010. With regard to this very important task for HI , I am writing to you all, with a special request for ANY information or material you are able to give us about your homeshare programme. The more programmes responding to this request, the better and more visually exciting and informative the Newsletter that is available to all. And in turn this will widen interest in homeshare around the world. I would be extremely grateful to receive photos, updates on staff changes, progress with matches, any relevant research or evaluation, any changes in the environment in which your programme is operating, news of new programmes and any news anyone feels that could be of interest or useful for other homeshare programmes around the world. Please don't worry about the language - if you send it in your own language, we can arrange for it to be translated. We hope to receive your response by the 31st January 2010. The newsletter will be placed on the HI website, circulated electronically and published on paper for those who would like to receive a "hard" copy. Gratefully yours, Giorgia Crucioli, Administrative Assistant, Homeshare International Email: giorgia@homeshare.org

We were invited to write an article for the Society of Ageing newsletter here.
An innovative new social enterprise founded by Oxford students called LinkAges helps to solve two problems simultaneously. First, many students find it difficult to afford decent lodging in a city like London. Second, many old people find themselves with spare rooms and have a need for a little work around the house. The solution? Place students in the spare rooms of older people's houses. The student pays no rent, but spends 10 hours a week helping with housework. As a result, the older person gains the security of having someone else in the home at night. They get help with tasks they may not be able to do anymore due to physical impairments. Often the student can help them with a computer. Or, they can help them record their life story, a project that has received a lot of positive feedback. The older person feels less lonely, and has the satisfaction of helping young people who might not be able to afford to study without their help. It's very important that the student and older person get on with one another, so LinkAges puts a lot of effort into the matching process. They interview people and help them to write a profile of their interests and preferences. When they think they have found a suitable match, they organize a meeting for the two parties. If both are happy with the match, they help them put together a written agreement. LinkAges recently received an UnLtd* Award for their work. Those living in London who have a spare room, as well as students who need one are invited to contact Linkages by phoning Sara Fernandez on 07852 612 193, or by emailing info@linkages.org.uk. The website can be found at www.linkages.org.uk.

Draycott Homeshare based in London is the latest provider of Homeshare. New to the Homeshare Market, Draycott Homeshare draws on the knowledge of Angela Hamlin, the founder of Draycott Nursing, established in 1997, to provide Nurses and Carers into the home. It was through Draycott Nursing it was recognised that there was a very real need for a less intensive form of support to allow individuals to remain in their own home independently and an affordable solution to enable individuals to live in central London. The Homeshare programme fits this need. Draycott Homeshare are delighted to be contributing the Homeshare Community and look forward to encouraging and supporting positive intergenerational relationships.
