Enliven Homeshare
Who runs the programme and where?
The programme is run by Enliven Positive Ageing, a service of Presbyterian Support East Coast port East Coast, which is a major provider of social and ageing services. We are providing Homeshare in Napier and Hastings and Gisborne.
Who benefits from the programmes?
Enliven Homeshare has been started as currently there are limited options which allow older people to remain in their own homes.
Both the householder and homesharer benefit from the programme.
The Householder benefits by:
Being able to stay in their own home and retain independence and the relationships they have in their community.
Having some help with daily tasks. (this does not include personal cares)
Companionship
Enjoy peace and security at night by having someone else in the home at night.
Also there is reassurance for family and friends.
The Homesharer benefits by:
Having access to low cost accommodation
Being able to still pursue their own employment or tertiary study during the day
Companionship
Living in a safe and friendly environment
Saving money.
Householders are generally over 65 and the homesharers 20+.
What does the exchange involve?
Householders provide low-cost accommodation to their homesharer. In return for this low cost accommodation, the homesharer helps for up to 8 hours a week around the home.
The help offered to the householder is tailored to his or her needs.
Most householders need help with domestic tasks like shopping, cooking, or cleaning.
Many need companionship.
For significant numbers, the real benefit of homesharing is the security of having someone in the home at night.
