SHARE Sonoma County, (“SHARE”), a housing program of SHARE California, offers two housing programs: Home Sharing that helps seniors remain safely in their homes and Community Shared Housing that creates permanent housing and support for those experiencing chronic homelessness.
- Participant support
In-person intake; home interviews; facilitate matching and placement interviews; complete rental agreements and any housing documentation; help with move-ins if needed; provide furnishings if needed; supportive services which include conflict resolution for the entire household, increasing financial stability, with a focus on improving each client's nutrition, health and wellness, remedial services for outstanding legal concerns, domestic violence support, ongoing case management. - Examples of support householders may request in exchange for accommodation in the home:
We have 5 levels of services beginning with simply being in the home at nighttime, to helping with errands, food preparation, house cleaning, pet care, medical visits, companionship is extraordinarily important, having occasional meals together, to someone who has the expertise to help provide personal services such as toileting, showering assistance. - Hosts description
Typically 55 years and older; 85% female; 90% are lower income clients who have very little extra money and are unable to afford out-of-pocket caregiving services. We have two separate home shares with Providers in their early 100's who are thriving with better nutrition and companionship. - Guests description
Typically 45 years and older; unfortunately we are placing Seekers in their 80's now newly homeless; our oldest placement was 96 years old; 80% female; mostly extremely low income clients; 10% are war veterans (100% male). We can place small households with a child on rare occasions.
