The Cohabilis network includes 38 organisations that support more than 50 departments in metropolitan France and overseas departments, 1700 intergenerational solidarity cohabitations per year, i.e. 360,000 days of mutual aid between young and seniors. This scheme is based on the idea of sharing, mutual respect, small "helping hands", and financial compensation that is well below the market rate. It is regulated by law. The members of the associative network are also developing 30 other shared housing solutions (inclusive housing, intergenerational housing, etc.) scattered throughout the country. This makes it a major representative of solidarity in and through housing.

For Cohabilis, “intergenerational homesharing “ refers to cohabitation between a senior and a young person in the senior’s home. The cohabitation agreement is based on mutual solidarity: the older person hosts the student for a cost significantly below the market price, and the student supports the older person, sharing time on a day-to-day basis. Behind every intergenerational homesharing, there is a local association involved, making sure that everyone is comfortable at every stage. Cohabilis is part of the WeShareWeCare European consortium. Intergenerational homesharing started in 1972. A significant part of the intergenerational homesharing is intercultural. As a fact, in 2021, about half of the young people involved in intergenerational homesharing are coming from a foreign country: in France (33% in Cohabilis), Spain (70% in Convive) and Belgium (48% in 1toît2ages).
